Omega chronometer

This is a superb Omega dress watch in an 18 carat gold case, which dates from 1952. The gold case was made by Dennison, so the movement and dial were imported and the watch was made up here in England (I assume to avoid payment of import duty). There’s a very interesting introduction to Dennison cased Omegas here:

The dial is labelled "chronometer", which means the watch passed a series of tests at the to verify the precision of the timekeeping across a range of positions and at different temperatures. However I have some reservations about this - Omega chronometer movements have a special type of regulator, which this watch doesn't have; additionally the Omega chronometer movements tend to be labelled as such on the bridges. So I'm unsure about this - Omega themselves aren't any help as apparently the records for this batch of movements are no longer available. The movement is from the correct period and I've no reason to suppose it isn't the original one.

The dial of this watch is exceptional - bold, applied arabic numerals and a wonderful light patina. The movement is a manual wind calibre 283 with sweep seconds. The watch comes with a 9 carat gold Omega buckle, which I believe is original to the watch and a new old stock genuine alligator strap.

All in all an exceptional watch in wonderful condition and ready to be worn and enjoyed. The watch has been fully serviced and regulated and the time keeping is of the highest order.
