Smiths diver (1969)

Smiths diver (1969)

This is Smith’s take on the diving watch, which was becoming popular with the top Swiss brands by the 1960s. The watch has a robust, solid stainless steel case and rubber strap. The case and overall condition is outstanding - I doubt you’ll ever see one in less worn condition. I’m not sure how seriously this watch was intended for actual diving: although it’s very well sealed against water ingress I’m not sure the rating of 20ATM is deep enough for practical diving.

This is one of the rarest of all the Smiths models, it appeared only once in their catalogues, in 1969. The movement is the excellent Smiths 27.CS with shockproofing and (unusually for Smiths) the addition of a simple calendar.

The movement has been fully serviced and the timekeeping is excellent. As the case is in such good condition there has been no need to clean it, nor polish the crystal - I doubt this watch has been worn more than a handful of times. I’ve fitted a new rubber strap and as with all out vintage watches we offer a 12 month guarantee.
